BEHIND SHAYDES CREATIVE CO - A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER

HELLO AND WELCOME!

My name is Yazmin and I am a brand strategist, graphic designer, and social media manager. Before I say anything else, I just want to say a HUGE thank you for visiting my website and supporting my journey. It has definitely been a whirlwind!

My work originally began in 2018, when I began exploring graphic design further after learning a few things in a public relations and advertising class in college. I volunteered to create a flyer for an event and it turned out greater than I had expected it to. The best parts about this first flyer were that the skill came so easy to me and I truly enjoyed the creative process. I dabbled a little bit more in graphic designing smaller scale things but never imagined making a career out of it.

Fast forward to June 2020 during the early-ish stages of the pandemic. I was now a year out of college, in a job that I dreaded going to, with no sense of what my passion in life was or where I wanted my career to go. I reflected back on the summer before college, when I was deciding what to major in and borrowed the logic that I had used to come to a decision: try to find something that you like/love, something that you're good at, and something that you want to learn more about.

I loved social media. Check. I've always been very creative and an "out of the box" thinker. Check. And I wanted to learn more about graphic design. CHECK! Coincidentally, a friend of mine reached out to me to see if I could design a graduation announcement for her. When I finished that project, something clicked. I should be getting paid to do this! After a little bit of research and a few nights of endless work, I somehow had a website created, a business name registered, and announced to the world that I had started a business. In hindsight, this is definitely NOT my advice to anyone who is just starting out but it worked for me at the time. Had I not done it this way, I would have overthought too much and that would have probably led to me talking myself out of it.

A few months later, I quit my job and shifted my focus to entrepreneurship and independent contracting. There are days where I still feel like I'm in over my head BUT I think of how I felt before starting this business and I know that I never want to feel like that again. I also see the hard work that I've put in and the results of this passion and determination overshadow EVERYTHING!

In closing, I have to say thank you again. Thank you for supporting me, in whatever capacity, and allowing me to help you or your business grow and evolve, as I continue to do the same.
